In 1964 two Italian reporters visited Lake Labynkr and were informed
that a group of hunters had watched in horror as a deer they had
been chasing and a dog they had sent afterwards disappeared under
the surface, followed by the appearance of a large black monster
which made some sort of sound before sinking back to whence it
came. Later that year a well-equipped expedition divided into three
teams arrived at Lake Labynkr to search for the monster. The first
two teams were unsuccessful in their bid, but the third team sighted
three large objects some 300 metres from shore. Attempts to film
the objects failed and it is not known whether a single creature
or three separate animals were witnessed. They did all submerge
and reappear in synchronisation so we are left to guess whether
it was a single or multiple animals that were being observed.
