Brief History of Stillpoint

Meredith Young along with her husband, Jim Young and Caroline Myss, started Stillpoint Publishing in 1981. Their shared vision was to publish cutting-edge books about spirituality by authors capable of galvanizing the public's thinking. This vision infused the early books published by Stillpoint, many of which became bestsellers, by authors who were leading lights in the world of spirituality, including Jane Roberts, Robert Fritz, Helen Nearing and Sir George Trevelyan. Agartha by Meredith Young, also published in this period, went on to become a classic. As a result of this activity, Stillpoint developed a reputation as a small publishing company with an uncanny ability to find books that could shift public opinion. People in the world of books considered Stillpoint a company to be taken seriously.

Caroline Myss left Stillpoint in 1989 to pursue her own career as a medical intuitive and Jim Young moved on to become a full-time potter. Meredith and her new husband, Errol Sowers, expanded Stillpoint Publishing to also include books about sacred ecology. Together, they published several blockbuster hits that included The Creation of Health by Caroline Myss and Norman Shealy, MD; Diet for a New America by John Robbins; and The Inner Athlete by Dan Millman.

The Stillpoint Institute was created as an educational center to house Meredith's growing body of work on intuitive perception, energy medicine and everyday spirituality, and the Stillpoint School of Advanced Energy Healing was launched. Other best-selling books published by Stillpoint in this period included: Angelic Messenger Cards by Meredith Young-Sowers; The Souls of Animals and Goodbye, Friend by Gary Kowalski; and Breaking Free of the Co-Dependency Trap by Barry and Janae Weinhold.

Now, with Wisdom Bowls, a new book by Meredith Young-Sowers that draws on her career as an intuitive healer, energy "diagnostician," and spiritual teacher, another new chapter is opening in the Stillpoint story. For the first time, Meredith's pioneering work in healing, inner guidance, and practical spirituality taught at the Stillpoint School is available to the public. As in the past, Stillpoint hones to its original vision of publishing authors who can crystallize ideas that fill the public's hunger for books that can change our lives.
